How to Use Google Voice Without Spending Cellular Minutes - Tutorial

Google Voice is a nice application to make absolutely free calls to both USA and Canada. On another note it is not completely free because you have to utilize your cellular minutes to call GV number. If you have unlimited calling to few numbers you can add your GV number to the fav destination list such as T-Mobile's myfavs and make free calls without using limited cellular minutes provided by your telecom operator. This is a good hack but only for those with the luxury of favs plan. Gizmo once offered free calls from Google Voice. This was such a useful and easy application that Google bought Gizmo and now sits on it. Further registrations to Gizmo have been stopped and only those who registered while it was available are able to make calls using Gizmo. Don't worry, we got you covered - thanks to SipGate

Why Google Voice + SipGate?
Our experiments with various tools revealed a way to make free phone calls using Google Voice without wasting limited minutes. All one needs to do is to set up Sip gate to use GV. Once it is set up, you can use your pc or laptop as a cell phone - awkwardly big though. You can still receive calls on your main number as usual. Besides saving anytime cellular minutes you will experience a better call quality with added advantage of having the privilege to record your calls.

What is needed?
Google Voice Account: You need a GV account which you ca now get without any invitation. You also need a Sipgate Account and Sipgate phone number, both of these are free too. With that let us see how to make truly free phone calls.

How to set up Sipgate with GV?
Step 1: Get a Google Voice account if you do not have one.

Step 2: Get a Sipgate account. They will send you a text message that has a confirmation code for verification. Provide your own cell phone or use the GV number to get that text.

Step 3: Fill out the basic information like your name, address and email.?do use a working email as you will have to confirm it.

Step 4: Download Sipgate software but do not start installing it. Respond to your email first that you get after your Sipgate registration.

Step 5: Choose your phone number. Add your exact address here.

Step 6: Go to Sipgate website, sign in and click on settings in the upper right corner. Set it up as per your preferences.

Step 7: Go to your GV. Add this new number as a new phone under GV. GV will confirm this number by calling you, log in to your sipgate application after installing it, pick up the call from GV and enter the digits (switch to dial-pad) that GV asked you to type.

How to Turn Your iPod Touch Into an iPhone

iPod touch effectively can be used as a iPhone without the binding contract from AT&T. As an elegant mp3 player it now iPod touch has the capability to perform all tasks that you can do with your iPhone. If you think with little abstractions the only difference between an iPod touch and an iPhone is that the latter can make phone calls. Otherwise, most of the stuff such as games or apps or functionalities are available for both of these apple gadgets. If we bridge the gap wouldn't you say you have an iPhone or that you have an equivalent of that? There is a vast number of applications, mostly free, that you can use on your iPod and turn it into an iPhone. Please read on for a review of few of these applications.

Truphone has an application that turns your iPod touch into an iPhone. You might wonder that iPod doesn't have a mic to talk. Yes, you will need a way to use a microphone on your iPod touch to use it as an iPhone. Truphone and many others (eBay is your friend) has developed such a device (headset with mic) and available for sale at just $7.49 plus postage for non-UK and non-Eu customers, or for £4.99 plus postage otherwise. This application lets you make FREE Phone calls to other Truphone users and many others including Skype, Google Talk etc. This app can be used over Wi-Fi and even 3G or other Data Plan, wherever you are in the world!

Skype has, since a long time, launched its application for iPhone as well for iPod touch. This application will let you make free phone calls to your skype contacts after you log in. This application, right now, is free to use but after 2010 there will be a small fee to use it - which kind of sucks. You can use your internet connection over wi-fi or over 3G, like truphone, to make calls - God bless AT&T. You can also call your contacts not on skype by dialing their phone number using dialpad, you might have to buy some skype credit or get a subscription though - unlimited calls to US and Canada is just $2.99/month.

Fring is a cool application with some really nice features such as Video calls to name one. Fring recently offered video calls using your phone over skype. This was even before iPhone 4 with facetime was released. However, in the very infamous recent fight between skype and Fring they no longer offer skype on their mobile client. However, you can still use fring to make free phone calls to your contacts over Gtalk, IMs etc. Also, you can configure your SIP settings in fring to use it as your sip phone. Most of the VoIP service provider that we reviewed can be configured using fring.

Whistle Phone is another option to make FREE Phone calls anywhere in USA. You also get a free phone number to receive incoming calls over your network. The only catch with whistle phone is that you need to listen to a 15 seconds ad before you can make an outgoing calls, remember RingPlus? But as per our experience it was not bad at all. That was a small list of applications that are easy to start with. There are some more applications that can be tweaked to work as a SIP client on your iPod touch. However, above applications take care of all your needs for a Free Phone Call, IM etc.

How to Make Cheap Calls Using VoIP Service Provider MediaRingTalk

We discussed about MediaRingTalk soft phone, almost a year ago, that allows you to make free phone calls to USA. These free phone calls were to be made from a pc thus it is a pc to phone call scheme. Additionally, the free phone calls were capped at 10 minutes per call. They now have four new offers for your local, long distance as well as international calling needs. Newest VoIP offers by MediaRingTalk. Mediaringtalk has recently added four plans to their already lucrative services. The prices are not the lowest that you can get but they are unequivocally very cheap. Moreover, the service is a pc to phone call, that is you need a computer to make calls. On the brighter side no long term contract is required along with no connection fee for any of these four plans. Let us have a look at the details of these plans.

Plan 1: Unlimited Call World Plan (phone calls to 40 countries)

Using this plan you can make unlimited calls to 40 countries for just $9.99 per month. The list of countries include Argentina, Denmark, Ireland, Peru, South Korea, Australia, France, Israel, Poland, Spain, Begium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Canada(Mobile Phone included), Greece, Japan, Puerto Rico (Mobile included), Taiwan, Chile, Guam, Mexico, Romania, Thailand (Mobile included),China (Mobile included), Hong Kong (Mobile Phone included), Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Croatia, Hungary, New Zealand, Singapore (Mobile included), UK, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia and USA (Cell Phones included).

There apply following conditions: Calls to landlines only are free for all the above countries. Only countries with Mobile Included have mobile phones included in plan. Only Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara landlines included Poland - Excludes Warsaw Only Moscow and St. Petersburg landlines in Russia For some of the countries, only calls to landlines in select cities are included.

This plan reminds us of the CalltoPBX that gives you free calls to 80+ countries for just $9.99 per month.

Plan 2: Unlimited Call world Plan (phone calls to 60 countries)

Using this plan you can make unlimited calls to 40 countries for $19.99 per month. The same conditions as above are valid here too. Plan 3: Call 750 minutes to India If you do not talk a lot then this plan is for you. This plan offers you 750 minutes of phone calls to any Landline or mobile in India for just $9.99 per month. The effective call rate will come about 1.33 cents per minute. Plan 4: 750 minutes to India and USA This plan made us laugh a little. With Google Voice with SipGate (Recommended Read) hack that we posted at Free Calls Hub, who would want to opt for a paid pc to phone call service? Anyways, this plan offers 750 minutes of calls to anywhere in India or USA for $12.99 per month. We do not recommend this as you do not need such plan to call USA and for India plan 3 is anyways there.
