Is There Any Use For the Video Phone?



I was first introduced to the video phone about a year ago and it got me really excited to think that I would be able to communicate with other people I was unable to see before because of distance or the fact that now I would be able to share something personal with them through the video phone. In fact, I was able to share the joy of purchasing a new motorcycle with my good buddy Charley who lives in New Hampshire. How cool is that! Imagine, without the video phone technology he would have had to travel in order to see my new purchase.

The more I used the video phone, the more comfortable I got with it and the more it started making my life a lot easier. What really did it for me was the low monthly cost to operate compared to my "analog" telephone bill and the unlimited calling to the whole United States, Canada and Portia Rico. My mother gets the opportunity to say good night to my son Luke and my daughter Nicole each night, for as long as she wants. Think about it, the possibility's are endless.

The best thing for the technically challenged is the plug and play set up and travel box that it comes with. I have no issues at the airport when I travel either. As soon as I arrive at my hotel, I plug the phone into an internet connection and I am able to call home in less than 3 minutes! How great is that! Technology has come a very long way since cell phones were the rave. Now, we have cell phones that play video, texting is made possible and you can even send and receive photos through your cell phone.

There is a whole new arena out there with VOIP technology at the forefront. What is VOIP? Basically, it's voice over IP. It's the same technology used to go onto the internet. The only difference is that instead of "surfing" you are actually making phone calls. What will they think of next?

5. VoIP calls, including 911 calls, may fail when the Internet connection becomes overloaded.

6. VoIP 911 calls may go through a VoIP 911 center who verifies telephone number and address before forwarding the call to the local PSAP.

7. VoIP telephones which cannot call Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) numbers may have no 911 call capabilities at all.
